To me, technology represents easy living: it provides a simpler way to do a task. Before cell phones, people wrote letters that would take weeks to relay a message. Now, people can send a simple text that gets to the receiver in seconds.
My phone influences me negatively because I get too involved in it that I forget to look up. If I’m looking at a beautiful waterfall, my first thought is to take a picture of it but I feel I don’t always appreciate it in that moment. I forget that eventually life will end and I need to embrace every moment on this earth. I chose to draw a rib cage and iPhone to symbolize that we should put our phones away. Sometimes we need to lock our phones in a “cage” to really live life. I also included earphones and music notes in the background because for me, music is another way to open up to the world and it’s something I enjoy. I used colored pencils to blend multiple shades together. The hardest part was the wire of the earphones because they were so small. I chose to use color on the rips instead of a more natural bone look because I wanted the “cage” to pop more and I feel color helped with that. When I asked my grandparents what it was like living without modern technology, they talked about “simpler times”. They were saying kids now are lazy because of technology and they don’t get the consequences that my grandparents did when they were young. |
